Throughout history, Black fashion designers have profoundly influenced the industry, blending innovation with cultural narratives to create timeless styles. Despite facing systemic challenges, these trailblazers have left an indelible mark on fashion.

Ann Lowe, born in 1898, is celebrated as the first African American to gain prominence as a fashion designer. She designed Jacqueline Kennedy's wedding gown, among other notable creations. 

Zelda Wynn Valdes, recognized as the first Black designer to open a shop in New York City in 1948, was known for her elegant evening gowns and costumes. 

Willi Smith, a pioneer of streetwear, co-founded the brand WilliWear in 1976, aiming to create affordable fashion that resonated with everyday people.
